Welcome to Snoflo! Snoflo provides a plethora of analytical tools aimed towards hydrology across the United States (the “Services”). Snoflo and its affiliates provide their Services to you subject to these terms of service, as well as any other guidelines, rules and additional terms referenced herein, and all such guidelines, terms and rules are hereby incorporated herein by this reference (collectively, the “Terms of Service”). By using Snoflo, which is owned and operated by Zero Kelvin LLC. (“Zero Kelvin”, “we” or “our”) and by accessing the Snoflo website located at http://www.snoflo.org, and all linked pages owned and operated by Zero Kelvin (the “Site” and, together with the Services, “Snoflo”), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. These Terms of Service set out the legally binding terms with respect to your use of, and our provision of, Snoflo. Please read these Terms of Service carefully. Your access to or use of Snoflo constitutes your acceptance of all the provisions of these Terms of Service. If you are unwilling to be bound by these Terms of Service, do not access or use Snoflo.
Snow related data is sourced directly from the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). The Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) installs, operates and maintains an extensive automated system called SNOTEL. With the majority of the water supply in the West arriving in the form of snow, SNOTEL data on snowpack provides critical information to support the resource management activities of the NRCS and others. Visit the NRCS (http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/wps/portal/nrcs/site/national/home/) to learn more.
Streamflow related data is sourced directly from the United States Geological Survey (USGS). As part of the National Streamflow Information Program, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) operates more than 7,400 streamgages nationwide to provide streamflow information for a wide variety of uses.
Note: Not all river sensors are maintained by the USGS. Rather, many river sensors (across various states) are managed by their own respective state level agencies. For example, in Colorado, there's many river sensors that are maintained by the Colorado Division of Water and Resources. The USGS does not provide visibility into the status of these sensors, rather folks must reference the CO DWR. Although we can't integrate data for every state agency, we do have state level river information for Colorado. This enables users to compare streamflow sites in Colorado regardless of the maintainer (USGS or the Colorado Division of Water and Resources).
Weather related data is sourced from numerous sources including NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration), the Canadian Meteorological Center, the UK Met Office, and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute. Snoflo algorithms analyze these datasets and provide 'tuned' predictions. Snoflo cannot guarantee the accuracy of these forecasting models.
Snow and River Data is updated constantly throughout the day by their respective government organizations. Snoflo provides realtime data based on these continous updates. However, for multiyear historical charts, Snoflo generally analyzes new data once per day; therefore multiyear historical charts are based on daily data (a single datapoint recorded on a daily basis)
It is possible that a sensor may not be reporting valid data for a given day, in this case Snoflo may not provide data for the given sensor.
Snoflo maintains a 5 yr historical lookback period for most sensors; if a user needs more data, please reference the corresponding organizational website for the sensor in question.
Snoflo provides ski reports and fishing reports for many recreational areas and resorts across the nation. Often these areas will have a sensor (NRCS/USGS) on premises and a report can be provided. In other cases, Snoflo algorithms will calculate a report for a given ski area or fishing location based on nearby telemtry from relevant governmental organizations.
Voluntary account alerts may be turned on by default as part of the Service. They may then be customized, deactivated or reactivated by you.Snoflo may add new alerts from time to time, or cease to provide certain alerts at any time upon its sole discretion.
