Watershed Hydrology

The Maury Watershed, located in eastern Washington State, covers an area of approximately 1,407 square miles. The hydrology of the watershed is influenced by the Columbia River, which borders the watershed to the south. The area experiences a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and cold winters with occasional snowfall. The snowpack in the watershed is an important source of water for the region, with snowmelt contributing to streamflow in the spring and early summer. Surface water in the watershed includes the Yakima River and several smaller tributaries. The watershed is also home to the Cle Elum Reservoir, which is an important source of water for irrigation and drinking water supply. Interesting climatic facts include the occurrence of occasional severe winter storms and the prevalence of wildfire risk during the summer months. There is currently concern about the impact of climate change on the snowpack and water resources of the region.
