Blackwater

Watershed Hydrology

The Blackwater Watershed covers an area of approximately 1,269 square miles and is located in the northern part of West Virginia. It is a part of the Upper Ohio River Basin and its hydrology is characterized by steep slopes and rugged terrain. The watershed receives an average of 48 inches of precipitation per year, with much of it falling as snow in the winter months. The area is known for its heavy snowpack, with some locations receiving over 100 inches of snow each year.
