Watershed Hydrology

The Lynches Watershed (HUC 03040202) covers a land area of approximately 1,050 square kilometers in South Carolina. The hydrology of the watershed is characterized by a diverse range of wetlands and streams that ultimately discharge into the Pee Dee River. The area experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters. The watershed receives an average of 44 inches of precipitation per year, with a significant portion of this coming in the form of snow in the winter months. The primary reservoir in the watershed, Lake Robinson, was constructed in the 1970s to provide water for the surrounding communities. The reservoir is primarily fed by the Lynches River and has a capacity of approximately 3,200 acres. The watershed is also home to a variety of wildlife, including several endangered species such as the Carolina Heelsplitter and the Red-cockaded Woodpecker.
