Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Suwannee Watershed (HUC 03110205) covers approximately 4,300 square miles in Florida and Georgia. The Suwannee River flows through the watershed, providing a source of surface water for the region. The hydrology of the watershed is characterized by wetlands, swamps, and riverine systems. The region typically experiences mild winters and humid summers, with occasional tropical storms and hurricanes. Snowpack is not a factor in this region due to its location in the southeastern United States. The Suwannee River is an important recreational resource, attracting tourists and locals for activities such as kayaking, fishing, and boating. The watershed also supports a diverse array of flora and fauna, including threatened and endangered species like the Florida manatee and wood stork. Additionally, the watershed contains several reservoirs, which are used for irrigation, drinking water, and hydroelectric power generation.
