Lower Alabama

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Alabama watershed (HUC 03150204) covers an area of approximately 2,500 square miles and is located in southern Alabama. The watershed is primarily characterized by its flat topography, which means that surface water run-off is slow and steady, contributing to the area's overall hydrology. There is little snowfall in the area, but the watershed is home to several large surface water bodies, including the Mobile-Tensaw River Delta and the Bay Minette Creek. Reservoirs in the watershed are typically fed by these water bodies and contain a variety of constituents, including sediment, nutrients, and dissolved minerals. Interestingly, the climate in the Lower Alabama watershed is generally warm and humid, with average annual temperatures ranging from 60 to 70 degrees Fahrenheit. In recent years, the area has experienced an increase in precipitation, which has had a positive impact on water resources and overall ecosystem health.
