Lower Leaf

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Leaf Watershed (HUC 03170005) is located in northeastern Arizona and covers an area of approximately 943 square miles. The hydrology of this watershed is dominated by snowmelt, with the majority of the annual streamflow occurring between March and June. The watershed contains several important surface water resources, including the Show Low Creek, the Little Colorado River, and several reservoirs. These reservoirs are used for irrigation, municipal water supply, and recreation. The watershed experiences a semi-arid climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Recent trends in climate indicate that the watershed is experiencing warmer temperatures and decreased snowpack, which could result in reduced streamflow and water availability in the future. The Lower Leaf Watershed is an important resource for the surrounding communities and should be managed sustainably to ensure its continued health and productivity.
