South Fork Salt

Watershed Hydrology

The South Fork Salt Watershed (HUC 07110006) covers an area of approximately 1,127 square miles in Idaho, Wyoming, and Utah. The watershed is primarily a high mountain region with elevations ranging from 4,000 to 13,000 feet. The hydrology of the area is dominated by the South Fork of the Salt River, which feeds into Palisades Reservoir. The watershed experiences a significant amount of snowfall, with the snowpack typically peaking in mid-April. This snowpack provides a vital water source for the region during the dry summer months. The surface water quality in the watershed is generally good, with low levels of contaminants. However, the reservoir has experienced issues with algae blooms in recent years. Climate trends in the area are impacted by global climate change, with increasing temperatures leading to earlier snowmelt and changes in precipitation patterns.
