Watershed Hydrology

The Salt Watershed (HUC 07110007) is located in central Arizona and covers approximately 2,888 square miles. The topography of the watershed ranges from high-elevation mountains to low-elevation desert valleys. Snowpack in the watershed is generally limited to higher elevations, with the largest snowstorms occurring in February and March. The Salt River is the primary surface water source and is fed by several tributaries, including the Verde River. Reservoirs in the watershed, including Roosevelt, Apache, and Canyon lakes, store water for municipal and agricultural use. The watershed experiences a semi-arid climate with hot summers and mild winters. Climate trends in the region include increasing temperatures and a decrease in precipitation, which can lead to water scarcity issues. The Salt Watershed supports a diverse range of flora and fauna, including several threatened and endangered species.
