Watershed Hydrology

The Peruque Piasa Watershed (HUC 07110009) covers an area of 454 square miles and is located in central and eastern Missouri. The watershed is characterized by a humid continental climate, with hot summers and cold winters. Snowfall is common during the winter months, and the snowpack contributes to the surface water supply in the spring and summer. The major surface water feature in the watershed is the Mississippi River, which receives runoff from the smaller tributaries in the area. The river is also used for navigation and recreation. The reservoir constituents in the watershed include sediment, nutrients, and other pollutants. Agricultural practices and land use changes have contributed to the degradation of water quality in the region. In recent years, there has been an increase in extreme weather events, including floods and droughts, which have affected the hydrology of the watershed.
