Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Hatchie Watershed (HUC 08010208) covers an area of approximately 1,367 square miles and is located in West Tennessee. The Hatchie River is the primary water source for this watershed. The hydrology of the Lower Hatchie Watershed is dominated by the Hatchie River and its tributaries. The area experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Significant rainfall occurs throughout the year, with the wettest months being March through May. The area is not known for significant snowfall. The surface water in the watershed is used for irrigation and recreation, and there are several reservoirs within the watershed, including the Chickasaw National Wildlife Refuge. The major constituents in the reservoirs include sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus. Climate trends indicate increasing temperatures and more frequent extreme weather events.
