Little Wind
Watershed Hydrology
The Little Wind Watershed (HUC 10080002) covers an area of 1,952 square kilometers in central Wyoming. The region is dominated by high-elevation mountain ranges and has a subalpine climate with cold winters and cool summers. Snowpack is a critical source of freshwater supply for the watershed, and the region experiences above-average snowfall compared to other areas of Wyoming. Surface water in the watershed is generated primarily from snowmelt and precipitation, which feed into the Little Wind River and its tributaries. The Little Wind Watershed also contains several reservoirs, including Boysen Reservoir, which stores water for irrigation, power generation, and recreation. The watershed has seen increasing temperatures and decreased snowpack in recent years, which could have significant impacts on water availability and the health of the ecosystem.
