Watershed Hydrology

The Rapid Watershed (HUC 10120110) covers approximately 475 square miles in central Idaho. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Salmon River, which is the largest and most important surface water feature in the area. Snowpack is a critical component of the hydrology in the watershed, with the vast majority of annual precipitation falling as snow. The Rapid River, which flows through the watershed, is a popular destination for fishing and recreational activities. The watershed is also home to several reservoirs, including the Rapid River Reservoir, which provides water for irrigation and other uses. The area experiences a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers, and has seen a warming trend in recent decades. Interestingly, the Rapid Watershed is known for its high levels of endemism, with many plant and animal species found nowhere else in the world.
