Watershed Hydrology

The Glendo Reservoir Watershed (HUC 10180008) covers an area of approximately 1,209 square miles in southeastern Wyoming. The area receives an average annual precipitation of 14 inches, with snowfall being the primary source of water. The snowpack in the watershed is highly variable, with some years experiencing above-average accumulation and others with below-average. Surface water in the watershed is primarily sourced from the North Platte River and its tributaries. The Glendo Reservoir, located in the center of the watershed, serves as a significant storage source for irrigation, municipal, and industrial use. The reservoir also provides recreational opportunities in the form of boating, fishing, and camping. The water quality of the reservoir is monitored regularly for constituents such as nitrates, phosphates, and bacteria. Climatic trends in the area include increasing average temperatures and more frequent and severe droughts.
