Upper Saline

Watershed Hydrology

The Upper Saline Watershed (HUC 10260009) covers approximately 757 square miles in Central Arkansas. It is mostly composed of forested land, with some agricultural areas. Hydrology in the watershed is dominated by the Saline River, which flows through the watershed and is the main source of surface water. The watershed is subject to occasional flooding, which can cause damage to infrastructure and homes. The area receives an average of 47 inches of precipitation per year, with snowfall being rare. Surface water in the watershed is generally of good quality, although there are some concerns regarding sedimentation and nutrient loading. The watershed contains several small reservoirs, including Lake Winona and Lake Barnett. These reservoirs are used for recreational purposes and as sources of drinking water for nearby communities. In recent years, the watershed has experienced some changes in climate patterns, including increased frequency and intensity of extreme weather events. This has led to concerns about the sustainability of water resources in the area. Ongoing monitoring and research efforts aim to better understand these changes and their impacts on the watershed.
