Fall

Watershed Hydrology

The Fall Watershed (HUC 11070102) covers an area of approximately 1,504 square miles in northeastern California. The watershed is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and cool, wet winters. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Fall River, which provides much of the surface water for the region. The area receives significant snowfall during the winter months, which contributes to the snowpack that feeds the river throughout the year. The watershed also contains several reservoirs, including Fall River Lake and Pit 6 Powerhouse Reservoir, which are used for hydroelectric power generation and irrigation. The reservoirs contain significant amounts of sediment and nutrients, which can affect water quality. Interesting climatic trends in the region include increasing temperatures and decreased snowpack, which may have significant impacts on water availability and ecosystem health in the future.
