Watershed Hydrology

The Revuelto Watershed (HUC 11080008) is located in the southern Rocky Mountains of Colorado and has a land area of approximately 87 square miles. The watershed is characterized by steep mountain slopes, which contribute to a highly dynamic hydrological system. The watershed receives an average annual precipitation of 25 inches, with snowfall accounting for the majority of this precipitation. The snowpack in the watershed is an important source of surface water, with peak snow accumulation occurring in late March to early April. The surface water in the watershed is mostly comprised of streams and small lakes, which provide important habitats for a variety of aquatic species. The reservoirs in the watershed are mainly used for water storage and hydropower generation. Climatic trends in the area include increasing temperatures, decreasing snowpack, and more frequent and intense droughts.
