Upper Clear Fork Brazos

Watershed Hydrology

The Upper Clear Fork Brazos Watershed is located in West Texas and covers an area of approximately 2,066 square miles. The watershed is primarily characterized by semi-arid climate conditions with an average annual precipitation of around 17 inches. The majority of the precipitation occurs during the summer months, with occasional winter storms bringing additional snowpack to the region. The watershed is home to several surface water bodies, including Lake Alan Henry and Lake J.B. Thomas, which are used for both recreational purposes and to supply water to nearby communities. The reservoirs also contain significant amounts of minerals such as calcium, bicarbonate, and sulfate, which can impact water quality. Climate trends in the region have shown a gradual increase in average temperatures, with corresponding decreases in average precipitation levels. These trends may have significant impacts on the availability of water resources in the region in the future.
