Watershed Hydrology

The Paint Watershed, also known as HUC 12060103, covers an area of approximately 585 square miles in Kentucky. It is part of the larger Ohio River Basin and is characterized by rolling hills and forested areas. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Paint Lick Creek, which flows into the Kentucky River. The watershed receives an average of 44 inches of precipitation annually, with most of it occurring in the form of rain. The snowpack in the area is generally light, and snowmelt does not significantly contribute to surface water flow. Surface water in the watershed is generally of good quality, and the reservoir constituents are mostly natural. The climate in the Paint Watershed is characterized by hot summers and cold winters, with occasional flooding events. There is evidence of increasing precipitation trends in the area over the past few decades, which could have implications for the management of the watershed in the future.
