Concho

Watershed Hydrology

The Concho Watershed (HUC 12090105) covers an area of approximately 1,380 square miles in eastern Arizona. It consists of the Little Colorado River and its tributaries, including the Concho River. The region is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and mild winters. Snowpack in the watershed is typically low, with most of the precipitation falling as rain. Surface water is limited, and the primary sources of water for the area are reservoirs, including the Lyman Lake and Concho Lake. The main water users in the watershed are agriculture and mining. Interesting climatic trends in the area include a decrease in precipitation over the past few decades and an increase in average temperatures. This has led to concerns about water scarcity and the impact of climate change on the region's ecosystems and economy.
