Middle Colorado
Watershed Hydrology
The Middle Colorado Watershed (HUC 12090106) covers an area of approximately 6,500 square miles in western Colorado. The watershed is fed by snowpack from the Rocky Mountains and is characterized by a semi-arid climate with low annual precipitation. The Colorado River and its tributaries flow through the watershed, providing surface water to the region. The watershed is home to several large reservoirs, including Lake Powell and Lake Mead, which are important sources of water for the Southwest United States. The area is also known for its unique geology and diverse wildlife. Global warming is causing a decrease in snowpack, which is leading to water shortages in the region. Additionally, increased temperatures are causing more frequent and severe wildfires, which can have detrimental effects on the watershed's hydrology and ecosystem.
