Watershed Hydrology

The Pecan Bayou watershed (HUC 12090107) covers an area of approximately 1,400 square miles in central Texas. The hydrology of the area is characterized by a high degree of variability due to the semi-arid climate and topography. The watershed receives an average of 28 inches of precipitation annually, with the majority falling in the form of rain. Snow is rare in this region. The Pecan Bayou serves as the main surface water source for the area and is fed by several smaller creeks and tributaries. The water quality of the reservoir is considered good, with low levels of pollutants and contaminants. The area experiences hot summers and mild winters, with average temperatures ranging from the mid-50s in winter to the mid-90s in summer. In recent years, the region has experienced increased precipitation and flooding events, likely due to climate change.
