Watershed Hydrology

Mission Watershed, also known as HUC 12100406, is located in the southern Cascade Range in California, USA. The watershed covers an area of 211 square miles and includes the largest reservoir in the region, Lake Oroville. The hydrology of the region is dominated by the Feather River, which is the primary tributary to Lake Oroville. The watershed receives significant precipitation during winter months, which is stored in the form of snowpack and released gradually throughout the year. The region has experienced a decline in snowpack levels in recent years due to warming temperatures. Surface water in the watershed is used for irrigation, hydropower generation, and municipal water supply. Reservoir constituents include sediment, dissolved minerals, and organic matter. Interesting climatic facts and trends include an increase in average temperatures and a decrease in annual precipitation over the past century. These trends have resulted in increased wildfire risk and water scarcity in the region.
