Lower Nueces

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Nueces Watershed (HUC 12110111) is located in south Texas and covers an area of approximately 7,030 square miles. The watershed is characterized by a sub-tropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Nueces River, which is fed by several smaller tributaries. The area typically receives very little snowpack due to its location in a warm climate, and surface water is primarily sourced from the Nueces River and its tributaries. The reservoirs in the watershed are primarily used for irrigation and municipal water supply. Interesting climatic trends in the area include an increase in average temperatures and a decrease in precipitation over the past few decades. These trends have led to concerns about water availability and the sustainability of the region's agricultural and municipal water use.
