Salmon Falls

Watershed Hydrology

The Salmon Falls Watershed is located in southwest Idaho and covers an area of approximately 3,324 square kilometers. The watershed is mainly characterized by semi-arid conditions, with annual precipitation ranging from 300-450 mm, mostly in the form of snow during winter. The snowpack in the watershed is usually low, with an average of 120-160 cm, which supports a low flow regime in the surface water. The watershed is also home to several reservoirs which store water for irrigation, municipal and industrial use. Water quality in the reservoirs is a concern due to elevated levels of nutrients and sediment from agricultural runoff. The climate in the watershed is changing, with increasing temperatures and longer dry spells leading to more frequent droughts. These changes are likely to have significant impacts on the availability and quality of water resources in the watershed.
