South Fork Boise

Watershed Hydrology

The South Fork Boise Watershed, located in southwestern Idaho, covers an area of approximately 730 square miles. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Boise River, which receives water from several tributaries, including the South Fork Boise River. The snowpack in the area, which is an important source of water, is typically highest in February and March. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, including Anderson Ranch Reservoir, which provides irrigation water and hydroelectric power to the region. Interesting climatic facts include the fact that the area experiences hot, dry summers and cold, snowy winters. In recent years, the region has experienced below-average snowpack levels, leading to concerns about water availability for agriculture and other uses. Climate change is likely to exacerbate these trends in the future.
