Lower Salmon

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Salmon Watershed (HUC 17060209) is located in central Idaho and covers an area of approximately 2,128 square miles. The hydrology of the watershed is largely influenced by the Salmon River, which flows through the region and is a major source of surface water. The snowpack in the area is generally low, with most of the precipitation falling as rain. Surface water in the watershed is generally of good quality, although there have been concerns about sedimentation and nutrient loading from agricultural activities. The primary reservoir in the watershed is the Lower Salmon River Reservoir, which is used for irrigation and flood control purposes. Interesting climatic facts and trends include the fact that the region experiences a Mediterranean climate, with hot, dry summers and mild, wet winters. There has been a trend towards warmer temperatures and decreased precipitation in recent years.
