Watershed Hydrology

The Skykomish Watershed (HUC 17110009) is located in western Washington state and covers approximately 1,632 square miles. The area is characterized by the Cascade Mountains, which receive significant snowfall in the winter months. As a result, snowpack plays an important role in hydrology, with the meltwater contributing to surface water flows in the spring and summer. The watershed includes several reservoirs, including the Skykomish River Reservoir, which is used for hydropower generation and water supply. The reservoir is monitored for water quality, with constituents including dissolved oxygen, pH, temperature, and turbidity. The region experiences a maritime climate, with mild temperatures and high precipitation levels throughout the year. In recent years, there has been a trend towards warmer temperatures and more frequent and intense precipitation events in the region.
