Turkey Bayou Camping Area is located in the Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, offering stunning views of the surrounding area. The campground is situated near the Garden of the Gods, a popular destination for hiking, rock climbing, and scenic drives. The campground features 12 primitive campsites, each with a picnic table and fire ring. The sites are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and there are no reservations accepted. The campground also has vault toilets and a drinking water source. Visitors should note that there is no cell phone service in the area.

An interesting fact about Turkey Bayou Camping Area is that it is named after the turkey vultures that are often seen soaring over the surrounding hills.

The best time of year to visit Turkey Bayou Camping Area is in the spring and fall when temperatures are mild, averaging in the 60s and 70s. Summer temperatures can reach into the 90s, so visitors should plan accordingly.
