An interesting fact about the area is that Trout Lake was originally named "Otahgamiwaning," which means "place of the young trout" in the Ojibwa language. It was later renamed by French explorers.

The best time to visit Trout Lake State Forest Campground is during the summer months when the temperatures are mild, averaging around 70 degrees Fahrenheit. It is important to note that the campground is only open from May to October.
