Upper Great Miami

Watershed Hydrology

The Upper Great Miami Watershed, also known as HUC 05080001, covers an area of approximately 2,630 square miles in southwestern Ohio. The watershed is characterized by its rolling hills, fertile agricultural land, and numerous streams and rivers, including the Great Miami River. The hydrology of the watershed is heavily influenced by precipitation, with an average annual rainfall of around 40 inches. Snowfall is also common in the winter months, with an average snowpack of around 14 inches. The watershed is home to several large reservoirs, including the Indian Lake and Grand Lake St. Marys, which are used for recreation, flood control, and water supply. In recent years, the watershed has experienced more frequent and intense precipitation events, leading to increased flooding and water quality issues. Additionally, there has been a trend towards warmer and wetter conditions in the region, which could have significant impacts on the hydrology of the watershed in the future.
