Watershed Hydrology

The Little Spokane Watershed is located in northeastern Washington and covers an area of approximately 152 square miles. The primary hydrological feature of the watershed is the Little Spokane River, which flows for 25 miles through the area. The watershed is characterized by a snowy, mountainous climate, with average snowpack depths ranging from 50 to 100 inches. The snowpack is an important source of surface water for the watershed, with spring snowmelt providing a significant portion of the river's flow. There are several small reservoirs located within the watershed, which are used for irrigation and water storage purposes. Interesting climatic trends in the area include an increase in average temperatures over the past few decades, as well as a decrease in snowpack depth and earlier snowmelt dates. These trends may have significant impacts on the hydrology of the watershed in the future.
