Northeast Cape Fear

Watershed Hydrology

The Northeast Cape Fear Watershed (HUC 03030007) covers an area of approximately 2,323 square miles in southeastern North Carolina. The watershed is predominantly rural, with agriculture and forestry being the primary land uses. The hydrology of the area is characterized by a humid subtropical climate with high levels of precipitation, particularly during the summer months. The watershed contains several major rivers, including the Northeast Cape Fear River, which serves as a source of surface water for the region. Reservoirs within the watershed are used for municipal drinking water supply, recreation, and hydroelectric power generation. The area has experienced a number of extreme weather events in recent years, including hurricanes and flooding, which have impacted both the natural environment and human communities. Trends in precipitation and temperature suggest that the region may continue to experience more frequent and intense weather events in the future.
