Watershed Hydrology

The Wateree Watershed (HUC 03050104) covers an area of approximately 2,710 square miles in central South Carolina. The watershed is home to several large reservoirs, including Lake Wateree and Lake Marion, which provide drinking water, recreation, and hydropower to the area. The hydrology of the watershed is characterized by numerous small streams and tributaries that eventually flow into the Wateree River. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Snowfall is rare in the area, but when it does occur, it typically melts quickly due to the warm temperatures. The reservoirs in the watershed contain various constituents, including sediment, organic matter, and nutrients, which can impact water quality. Overall, the Wateree Watershed is an important resource for the region, providing water, power, and recreation opportunities to its residents.
