Perdido Bay

Watershed Hydrology

The Perdido Bay Watershed covers approximately 1,400 square miles in Alabama and Florida, and drains into the Gulf of Mexico through the Perdido Bay. The hydrology of the watershed is influenced by the rainfall patterns, which are highest in the summer months. The area does not typically experience snowpack, as it is located in the southern United States. Surface water resources in the watershed include numerous small creeks and streams that ultimately flow into the Perdido River. The Perdido River is dammed to form two reservoirs, Lake Ingram and Bayou Marcus. The watershed is home to a variety of fish and wildlife species, and the climate is humid subtropical, with average temperatures ranging from 40 to 90 degrees Fahrenheit. Interesting climatic trends in the area include an increase in the frequency and intensity of hurricanes and tropical storms in recent years.
