Lower Conecuh

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Conecuh Watershed, located in Alabama, covers approximately 1,537 square miles and is part of the larger Conecuh River Basin. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Conecuh River and its tributaries, which provide a constant source of surface water. The area typically experiences mild winters with limited snowfall. The surface water quality is influenced by agricultural and urban runoff, which can contribute to elevated levels of sediment and nutrients in the water. The watershed contains several reservoirs that are used for water supply, recreation, and flood control. One interesting climatic fact is that the region experiences frequent thunderstorms during the summer months, which can contribute to flash flooding. In recent years, there has been increased attention on the need to improve water quality in the watershed, particularly in relation to reducing nutrient levels and improving habitat for aquatic species.
