Duck-Pensaukee

Watershed Hydrology

The Duck-Pensaukee watershed (HUC 04030103) covers an area of approximately 1,065 square miles in northeastern Wisconsin. This watershed is predominantly forested and contains several small lakes and streams that feed into the larger Green Bay watershed. The hydrology of this area is characterized by a relatively flat landscape with shallow, slow-moving streams and wetlands. The snowpack in this area can be significant, with an average annual snowfall of around 50 inches. The surface water in the watershed is of high quality, with low nutrient levels and minimal pollution. However, there are concerns about the presence of harmful algal blooms in some of the lakes. There are several reservoirs in the Duck-Pensaukee watershed, including the Shawano Lake reservoir and the Peshtigo River reservoir. These reservoirs are used for flood control, power generation, and recreation. Interesting climatic facts and trends in this area include a trend toward more frequent and intense precipitation events, which can lead to flooding and erosion. Additionally, the region has experienced several periods of drought in recent years, which have affected agriculture and other industries.
