Watershed Hydrology
The Menominee Watershed (HUC 04030108) covers approximately 3,854 square miles in northeastern Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The Menominee River is the primary hydrologic feature of the watershed, and it has a highly variable flow regime due to the influence of snowmelt, precipitation, and water released from upstream reservoirs. The watershed receives an average of 80 inches of snowfall each year. Surface water quality is influenced by various anthropogenic activities such as agriculture and forestry, but overall, the watershed supports a diverse array of fish and wildlife species. The watershed contains several reservoirs, including the Menominee, Michigamme, and Peavy ponds. Some climatic trends in the area include increasing annual temperatures and precipitation, which have been linked to more frequent and severe flood events within the watershed.
