Lower Fox

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Fox Watershed (HUC 04030204) covers an area of approximately 2,900 square miles in eastern Wisconsin. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the Fox River, which stretches 182 miles from its headwaters to Green Bay. The watershed experiences a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. The winter season is notable for its heavy snowfall, which can accumulate to several feet. The snowpack contributes significantly to the surface water supply in spring and summer. The watershed contains several reservoirs, including Lake Winnebago, which provides recreation, power generation, and water storage. In recent years, the watershed has experienced increased precipitation, which has led to flooding concerns. Additionally, nutrient pollution from agriculture and urban areas has resulted in degraded water quality in some parts of the watershed. Land use changes and conservation practices are being implemented to address these issues.
