Watershed Hydrology

The Pine Watershed (HUC 04080202) covers approximately 1,014 square miles in north-central Colorado. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by the South Platte River, which flows through the center of the watershed. The watershed is also home to several reservoirs, including Cheesman, Eleven Mile, and Antero Reservoirs. The snowpack in the watershed is important for the water supply, and the area typically receives between 60-90 inches of snow annually. Surface water quality in the watershed is generally good, although there are some areas of elevated nutrient levels. Interesting climatic facts include the fact that the watershed experiences a continental climate with cold winters and warm summers, and that climate change is expected to increase temperatures and decrease snowpack in the coming decades. Overall, the Pine Watershed is an important source of water for the region and is closely monitored for water quality and quantity.
