Lower Green

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower Green Watershed, located in western Wyoming and eastern Idaho, covers an area of approximately 2,800 square miles. The watershed is primarily fed by snowpack, with the highest elevations receiving up to 600 inches of snow annually. The snowmelt from the mountains provides a significant source of surface water for the watershed, which is home to several small streams and rivers. The watershed also contains several reservoirs, including Palisades Reservoir and Jackson Lake, which are used for irrigation, hydropower, and recreation. In recent years, the Lower Green Watershed has experienced warmer temperatures, which have led to earlier snowmelt and decreased snowpack. This trend is expected to continue, which could have significant impacts on the availability of water in the watershed. Additionally, the area has experienced an increase in wildfires, which can have detrimental effects on the watershed's water quality and hydrology.
