Watershed Hydrology

The eel watershed (HUC 05120104) is an area of approximately 3,735 square miles located in northern California. The watershed is characterized by a Mediterranean climate with wet, mild winters and dry summers. Snowpack in this region is variable, with some years experiencing significant snow accumulation and others with very little. The watershed is home to several important surface water resources, including the Eel River and several large reservoirs. These reservoirs are used for irrigation, hydroelectric power generation, and municipal water supply. The area also has several notable climatic trends, including a decreasing trend in precipitation over the past few decades and an increasing trend in average temperature. Additionally, the watershed has been impacted by drought and flooding events in recent years, highlighting the importance of careful management of its hydrological resources.
