Watershed Hydrology

The Silver Little Kentucky Watershed (HUC 05140101) covers an area of approximately 378 square miles in central Kentucky. It is primarily a rural area with agriculture being the dominant land use. The watershed is characterized by a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and cool winters. Snowfall is not significant, and the area is prone to flash flooding due to frequent heavy rainfall events. The watershed contains several small streams and tributaries, which feed into the Silver Little Kentucky River. There are no major reservoirs in the watershed, but there are numerous small ponds and lakes. The most common reservoir constituents include sediment, nitrogen, and phosphorus, which can lead to water quality issues. Climate trends show an increase in temperature and precipitation, which may exacerbate flooding and water quality issues.
