Kentucky Lake

Watershed Hydrology

The Kentucky Lake Watershed (HUC 06040005) covers approximately 6,681 square miles in western Kentucky and includes parts of Tennessee. The region is heavily influenced by the Tennessee River, which flows through the watershed and feeds into the 160,000-acre Kentucky Lake reservoir. The watershed is characterized by a humid subtropical climate, with hot summers and mild winters. Precipitation is relatively evenly distributed throughout the year, with an average annual rainfall of 50 inches. The area is also prone to occasional flooding, due to the flat topography and high water table. In terms of reservoir constituents, Kentucky Lake is primarily used for recreation, but also serves as a source of drinking water and hydroelectric power. The reservoir is home to a variety of fish species, including crappie and bass, and is a popular destination for anglers. Overall, the Kentucky Lake Watershed is an important ecological and economic resource for the region.
