Rush-Vermillion

Watershed Hydrology

The Rush Vermillion Watershed (HUC 07040001) covers an area of approximately 2,380 square miles in eastern Illinois and western Indiana. The area has a humid continental climate with cold winters and warm summers. Snowfall is common in the winter months and contributes to the watershed's hydrology. The watershed is home to several surface water resources, including the Vermillion River and several other smaller streams and tributaries. There are also several reservoirs in the area, including the Lake Vermilion, which is used for flood control and recreational purposes. The watershed is primarily agricultural, with corn and soybeans being the dominant crops. There is also some urban development, particularly around the cities of Danville and Urbana. Climate change may affect the area's hydrology, as increases in precipitation could lead to more frequent flooding events.
