Watershed Hydrology

The L'anguille Watershed (HUC 08020205) covers approximately 1,789 square miles in northeastern Arkansas. The watershed is heavily influenced by the Mississippi River, which borders it to the east. The L'anguille River, which runs through the center of the watershed, is the primary source of surface water. The watershed experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. Notably, the area experiences periodic droughts, which can lead to decreased water availability. The watershed is also prone to flooding due to heavy rainfall events. Changes in land use, including agriculture, urbanization, and deforestation, have led to alterations in the hydrology of the watershed. The watershed is home to several reservoirs, including the Lake Ashbaugh and Horseshoe Lake, which are primarily used for recreational activities. The area has experienced an overall warming trend in recent decades, with increasing temperatures and more frequent heatwaves. Snowfall is relatively rare in the area, with an average annual snowfall of less than 2 inches.
