Lower White-Bayou Des Arc

Watershed Hydrology

The Lower White Bayou Des Arc Watershed (HUC 08020301) covers approximately 3,000 square miles in eastern Arkansas. The hydrology of the area is largely influenced by the White River, which flows through the center of the watershed. The area experiences hot, humid summers and mild winters, with an average annual precipitation of 50 inches. There is no significant snowpack in the region. Surface water in the watershed includes several small streams and creeks, as well as the Bayou Des Arc and Cache River. The main reservoir within the watershed is the Greers Ferry Lake, which is used for flood control, hydroelectric power generation, and recreation. Interesting climatic trends include an increase in extreme weather events, such as heavy rainfall and flooding, as well as a long-term warming trend.
