Watershed Hydrology

The Cache Watershed (HUC 08020302) is located in northern Utah and encompasses an area of 1,660 square miles. The watershed is characterized by a semi-arid climate with high variability in precipitation and temperature. Snowpack is a significant component of the hydrology of the watershed, with the mountainous regions accumulating snowpack during the winter months to provide a steady streamflow during the dry summer months. The surface water of the watershed is primarily used for irrigation and municipal supply, with several reservoirs serving as storage facilities. The reservoirs' constituents are mainly sediment, nutrients, and organic matter, which can lead to water quality issues if not managed properly. Interesting climatic trends include a decrease in snowpack and an increase in temperature, which could lead to a decrease in water availability in the future.
