Yalobusha

Watershed Hydrology

The Yalobusha Watershed covers approximately 1,330 square miles in north-central Mississippi. It is situated within the Mississippi River Basin and is part of the larger Yazoo River Basin. The watershed includes parts of five counties and is characterized by rolling hills and forests, as well as agricultural and urban areas. The main surface water feature is the Yalobusha River, which flows into the Yazoo River. The hydrology of the watershed is dominated by precipitation, with an average annual rainfall of around 55 inches. The region experiences a humid subtropical climate with hot summers and mild winters. There are no significant reservoirs in the watershed, and snowpack is generally minimal. According to climate data, the region has experienced an increase in average temperature and precipitation over the past few decades. This trend is projected to continue in the future.
