Watershed Hydrology

The Amite Watershed (HUC 08070202) is located in southeastern Louisiana, covering an area of approximately 1,292 square miles. The hydrology of this watershed is heavily influenced by the Mississippi River, which provides a significant source of surface water. The area experiences a humid subtropical climate, with hot and humid summers and mild winters. Snowpack is not a significant factor in the Amite Watershed, as the area typically receives very little snowfall. However, hurricanes and tropical storms are a major concern, and can cause significant flooding and damage to the region. Reservoirs in the watershed include the Amite River Reservoir and the Tickfaw River Reservoir, which provide important sources of drinking water and recreation for local communities. In recent years, the Amite Watershed has experienced a trend of increasing precipitation and flooding events, likely due to climate change. This has led to increased attention on stormwater management and flood control in the region.
